In 1823 Hiram Capron was traveling in what is now called Ontario to sell his new ironware. He reached the area known as the Forks of the Grand River and was captivated by its beauty and economic potential. He went on to buy much of the land in 1829 and then incorporate the town in 1850.
Its unique architecture includes a downtown core that backs directly onto the scenic Grand River. Paris is also known as the cobblestone capital of Canada because of the large number of cobblestone buildings still in use there.

Paris was given its name, not because of Paris France, but because of gypsum deposits used to make plaster of paris.
Paris is also famous for being the first community to ever receive a long distance telephone call. It was made by Alexander Melville Bell (Alexander Graham Bell’s father) in the nearby city of Brantford to Alexander Graham Bell himself.
The Brown Dog Coffee Shoppe’s Paris location is an integral part of the Paris downtown core. With a warm and inviting ambiance, it provides visitors with the same old fashioned values and quality that formed this charming community. Come enjoy Paris in a relaxing environment with a delicious coffee, warm apple fritter and a superb view of the Grand River.
